About Me

Edendale, Southland, New Zealand
Hello! We are Room Kea from Edendale Primary School Southland. Currently we have 15 wonderful children in our class. We are the school where children take what they think is impossible and make it possible, where children see what wonderful potential they have and begin setting big goals for their lives. To achieve this at Edendale Primary School our children will be...... confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.

last week of school

WOW another term down, I cant believe how quick it has gone!

A BIG thank you to all the support from everyone these past 11 weeks; it has been great meeting many new parents and keeping in touch with others.
I am really going to miss the 9 children moving into Room 2. I remember their first day as I think I was just as scared as them if not more.
Thank you Rach, Hunter, Emily, Jacob, Emma, Ashley, Josh, Liana and Alex for being AWESOME!!! It has been a pleasure to teach all of you. You have taught me so much and I am soooooo proud of all the hard work you have done.

Welcome to the new children who have started this week and in to the 5 starting next term.

A few reminders-
  • Could all ARB books be back by Wednesday please; remember to sign the goal page.
  • Ice skating this Thursday- some of you are still to return the form, please do this asap.
  • Half day on Friday- we are having a movie session with Room 2. If you have a movie that you think would be fun to watch please bring it Fri morning so we can have a vote :)
  • If you would like reading books over the holidays please leave a note in your child's homework book.
Thank you for a great term 2 everyone. Enjoy the break!

week 10 news letter

Hello,                                                                               WOW WEEK 10!!!!!
Wow week 10, this term has gone so quick. Over the next couple of weeks the 9 children transitioning to Room 2 will be spending a few afternoons over there. This will help them with their confidence and ease them into the transition for next term.

Penguin day was AWESOME, you can check out the photos on our blog. Thank you to the three children that supplied the “Happy Feet’ dvd for us to watch.

A few notices:
This week-
  • Please make sure you sign the report part of your child’s Achievement Recording Book before you return it in the next week or so. Could all books be back before the end of term thanks J
  • If you are wondering why you did not receive a book about your child this is due to the amount of time they have spent at school. Some children have little assessment there to see. If you would like to see the books however feel free to pop in and have a look.
  • Remember to return ice skating forms please.
  • Your child will be bringing home a copy of the music festival song lyrics, it would be great to read over these with your child.
  • red day on Friday

Have a great week. Abby d.G

Penguin day!

This week we have been learning about Emperor Penguins. The children were very interested in this topic due to all the news coverage about the penguin 'Happy Feet' who came and visited NZ. Over the week we have been learning about where penguins live, what they eat, what eats them and  who and how they look after their babies.

There have been some fantastic stories written over the past few days which will be published an displayed in Room 1 along with some art and a selection of facts.
Today we had our very own 'Penguin Day.' Everyone was very excited to try some penguin food.
On the menu there was - salmon on seaweed squares and tuna on seaweed crackers....the facials were BRILLIANT!!! Our special guest Mr McKenzie paid us a visit and was brave enough to try some penguin food, he was kind enough to demonstrate how a penguin would eat it.

The verdict-Out of 21 children- 8 liked the salmon on seaweed and 16 liked the tuna on seaweed crackers!
The room was full of laughter, facials, spat out food and children asking for more.
I am very proud of all my Room 1 kiddies as everyone tried the penguin food, they were very brave.

Later we watched the movie 'Happy Feet.' All the facts we had learnt were in the movie which made us feel very cool.
We were on assembly today- WELL DONE ROOM 1 YOU ROCKED IT!!!!
