News letter week 9

Hello,                                                                               WOW WEEK 9!!!!!
This week we are doing a mini research topic on Emperor Penguins due to the recent news coverage on ‘Happy Feet’ the Penguin who swam all the way to NZ. We are learning many interesting facts about penguins and their habitats.
Well done to everyone who has presented their speeches. They were FANTASTIC!!!!!

A few notices:
This week-
  • Some children are yet to do their speech. Tuesday will be the LAST opportunity to get this done. Please pick a topic to present to the class.

  • We have ice skating coming up- could you please write the size of your child’s foot into their home work books so Mrs Weir can start grouping everyone.

Writing

We are learning many new writing skills in class at the moment. Some groups are remembering to use capital letters and fullstops, others are using their sound knowledge to attempt words on their own. Everyone is trying so hard with their writing at the moment. Well done!

help her with spelling attempts.
Gabby is writing down sounds she hears.

Our FANTASTIC speeches!!!

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about speeches. We know that when we are giving a speech we need to- stand up straight and tall, use a clear and loud voice, we don’t fiddle and we make eye contact with our audience.
I was so impressed with the hard work everyone has put into their speeches; I could tell that there was practise happening at home.
Thank you to the parents who worked on their child's speech with them. :)

Emily showed us her special duck.

Ashley's cue cards helped her remember
her speech.

Josh had lots of props to show us during
his presentation.

Liana wrote her speech all by herself

dog house.

Miss de Groot's family came to visit

Last Friday Miss de Groot's family came to visit us. We were very excited to meet them, especially Patrick Miss de Groot's Brother. We practised our song "Love Love Love" to preform to them and we made sure our writing was all correct so we could share it.
Patrick (15) & Patrick (5)
When they arrived in the afternoon we were so happy. They loved hearing our stories and listening to our song. We had to show Miss de Groot's Dad how to use the white interactive board, we challenged him on some maths games. Miss de Groot's Brother was very good. Her Mum took lots of photos of us.
We like seeing Patrick because it was funny to see how tall he was compared to Patrick in our class. we nicknamed them "Big Patrick" and "Little Patrick."

Ashley was amazed at how tall Patrick was.

Alex showing Miss de Groot's Dad how to play a maths game.
We hope they come and visit us again some time soon.....
:)
Patrick was a wizz at the maths game.

Ash reading her story to Patrick.
Emma is a great help.

Rob enjoyed listening to Liana's story!
