Hello! We are Room Kea from Edendale Primary School Southland. Currently we have 15 wonderful children in our class. We are the school where children take what they think is impossible and make it possible, where children see what wonderful potential they have and begin setting big goals for their lives. To achieve this at Edendale Primary School our children will be...... confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.

 SNOW DAY!
Everyone loves a snow day! It was so nice to sleep in until 10am.
Some of us got so excited we forgot to put our shoes on. Brrrrrrrrrr chilly feet!

 SOUTHLAND STAGS COME TO SCHOOL!!!!

What a cool week we have had! We were lucky enough to get 'Stevo' the Stag and three players to come along to talk to us about what motivates them as players.
The senior children had a range of interesting questions to ask the guys. The wee ones were mesmerized by Stevo as he danced and they chanted "Stevo! Stevo! Stevo!"

How Can I Keep Myself Healthy and Safe

This week we have been learning about healthy eating. Room Kea made group decisions about what group our food belonged in.
There was a big conversation trying to convince many of the boys that chocolate biscuits were in fact a sometimes food and not a healthy choice like fruit.

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back Everyone!!!
From what my little Kea's have been telling me it sounds like everyone had a safe and enjoyable Xmas and New Year break full of sunshine.
I had a great time over in Australia experiencing the 30 degree heat that Melbourne put on and the packed beaches of Sydney.

We have a small class of 7 starting this term with 5 kids from last year and 2 new children.
Welcome  to Shaelin and her family; and Keegan and his family.

This term we are learning all about 'keeping myself healthy and safe.' This topic will cover healthy eating and police woman Linda Graeham will be in to talk about train and road crossing plus bike and a road safety.

Next week your child will bring home their 'Learning Partnership Book' which is replacing the old term 'Homework'. We hope that this new attitude towards 'homework' encourages a partnership between your child, yourself and the teacher thus having a positive collaborative impact on your child's learning.

Thanks for a great week back, have a safe and enjoable long weekend.

Week 6
Hello,
The concert is swiftly approaching us.  Once you have organised your child’s costume could you please bring it to class in a named plastic bag.
Don’t forget goal review conversations this week. This is a chance for you to look through your child’s report book, see their progress towards their goal and for them to show you around the room.
Could all library books come back this week please.  Many children have books overdue books.
Swimming will carry on this week . Next week may be out last time due to concert practise.
I look forward to seeing you over the next few days.
Once again thank you to everyone who has been helping with swimming, we couldn’t go without you.
Regards
Abby de Groot

INDIA

This term we have been learning about INDIA!
Our big question was -
'How would my life be the same of different if I lived in India?'

We have been focusing on the Indian slums, their Bolly Wood styled dance, traditional patterns, clothing and food.
Room 1 has found this very interesting with many of the children deciding that India is not a place they would like to live after learning about the slums.
Alice Holland has been creating and teaching us about rangoli patterns as she has been to India twice.

Reuben Patterson

Room One has been learning about a famous NZ artist called Reuben Patterson. We have been focussing on his amazing glitter  art work. After seeing a piece of his work on the "Arts Road Show bus'' we were interested in learning more.
Reuben Patterson
Reuben uses his Maori background as a focus for much of his work. The koru is throughout many of his glitter pieces. He has also gone onto printing his work on to clothing creating jackets and pants out of glitter fabric.

Here are some of our takes on his work!
